Track spreadsheet changes with an optional file record

PDFEazy offers optional provenance for spreadsheet tasks. A separate change record describes the source files, selected transformations and generated outputs. It is off by default and stays on your device unless you download and share it.

Save a change record

  1. Prepare a clean, combined, compared or summarized table.
  2. Check Include a change record before creating the result.
  3. Download the result and its separate change-record.json.
  4. Keep the record with a trusted copy of your source and result files.

What does it contain?

The record includes SHA-256 fingerprints of source and output bytes, file and sheet names, applied settings, operation counts and source-row references. Row numbers refer to the original spreadsheet, starting at one. Grouped and deduplicated results can reference several source rows. The local creation timestamp is not a trusted timestamp.

Check files later

Open Check files against an optional change record, select the record and supply result files or original spreadsheets. Matches means the bytes agree with the saved fingerprint. Changed means a same-named file has different bytes. Not supplied means no matching file was selected. To inspect value differences, use Compare two versions.

Limits and privacy

This unsigned record does not certify authorship, accuracy or authenticity. Someone who replaces both a file and the record can create another matching pair. Even a formatting-only save can change a file hash. Source names, column names and filter text can be sensitive; review the record before sharing. The exported spreadsheet itself does not contain this optional history.
